February 17 is officially known in Arizona, governor: Albanians made significant contributions here

The Kosovo Embassy in Washington has announced that the state of Arizona has recognised February 17th as Kosovo Independence Day.

“Taking into account that the state of Arizona feels honored to stay close to the Albanian-American community throughout the state at the commemoration of February 17th 2008 as the Independence Day of Kosovo; and considering that on February 17, 2008, the Republic of Kosovo, showing firm determination, it officially declared its independence in Pristina. This historic act, based on the principles of sovereignty and self-determination, marked a key moment in the journey towards freedom and confirmed Kosovo's status as an independent state, free from foreign domination”, reportedly in the act of Governor Katie Hobbs published by the embassy.

She writes she took into account the contribution of the Albanian American community to Arizona and Albanian businesses there.

Taking into account that this year marks Kosovo's 18th anniversary of independence, a moment that the state of Arizona proudly recognises; and taking into account that the Albanian-American community in Arizona has made significant contributions to the state, enriching communities with cultural heritage, entrepreneurial spirit and strong civic engagement. From businesses that thrive to professional achievements, Albanians continue to form the varied social and economic structure of Arizona; and given that the United States, including the state of Arizona, has supported Kosovo's journey towards building state and peace, and Kosovo citizens and their descendants continue to contribute significantly to the cultural and economic development of our state.
