Istanbul's Public Prosecutor's Office said Thursday evening that it had detained Alican Uludag and opened a criminal investigation based on some of his posts in social media.
He will appear before prosecutors Friday.
Deutsche Welle, or DW, said the correspondent, who has been working for the broadcaster for several years, was arrested in Ankara and sent to Istanbul police Thursday.
DW General Director Barbara Massing called the accusations groundless and said the arrest was “an intentional act of intimidation and shows how seriously the government is pressing press freedom”.
DW said charges against Uludag relate to his criticism of Turkish government measures leading to the release of suspected militants I SIS in a post on the X social media platform he did about a year and a half ago.
DW added that his apartment was searched and his IT equipment seized, Reuters reported.
