According to police, Grubi appeared at the country's entrance around 06:10 and was immediately deprived of freedom. It has been submitted to maintenance for further procedures, while authorities gave no additional details on the actual phase of criminal prosecution.
“On 23.02.2026 at 6:10 minutes at the entrance of the Republic of Northern Macedonia at the Blace border crossing was presented by Artan Grubi, born 07.06.1977 with the move “arresto”. The person in question is deprived of freedom for further actions”, says the Interior Ministry's announcement.
He is involved in an investigation related to allegations of misuse of official positions, corruption and violations of public procurement procedures, in the context of the case involving the functioning and contracts of Northern Macedonia State Lottaria.
According to the prosecution's bodies, investigations involve decisions and contracts allegedly causing significant financial damage to the institution's budget, estimated at 500m denars, or over 8m euros. The prosecution claims that through controversial procedures certain economic subjects have been favoured.
The court in advance had appointed detention measures against Grub, while authorities had declared him on the run because of his failure to appear before justice bodies.
