The initiative for the dismissal of mayors in Leposavic, Zvecan, Northern Mitrovica and Zubin Potok has failed, as only 253 people voted out 46.556 citizens who were eligible to vote.
Shortly after the end of this process, the government has asked the European Union to lift punitive measures against Kosovo, saying it has already fulfilled the obligation.
Even today, Vetevendosje Movement MP Arbene Kryeziu Hyseni at the plenary session said Kosovo is close to removing measures from the European Union.
And that is not what you see near former Deputy Foreign Minister Anton Berisha.
He in a proposal for Periscope has said he does not expect measures against Kosovo to be removed.
According to him, the other additional condition is the Association, which the government, as he says, has promised.
I do not expect the measures to be removed at this stage. Our partners have sought solutions through new elections and procedural games that the government has used. Clearly the condition of association is an additional element, and the Government must fulfil the promises it has made to its own”, he told Periscope.
The EU had imposed punitive measures on Kosovo last summer, with the argument that it had not done enough for the extension of the situation in northern Kosovo in May 2023.
At the time local Serbs protested against the new mayors in front of the municipal buildings in Leposaviq, Zvecan and Zubin Potok, and therefore the situation escalated into violence./Periscopi
