Court declares conviction against two indictees for assault on KFOR members in the north

The spokeswoman of the Constitutional Court in Pristina, Mirlinda Gashi, has confirmed that the act of prejudice against the two indictees was proclaimed Tuesday by Judge Vesel Ismaili.

Under the trial, the accused Petrovic has been sentenced to 6 months in prison, which with his consent is replaced by a fine of 6 thousand euros.

In this sentence, the same will be accounted for as long as it is in detention, where the order is estimated by 20 euros each day.

The accused Obrenovic, on the other hand, was sentenced to 6 months in prison, in which sentence will be counted as the time spent in detention from May 29th to November 27, 2023.

The accused are obliged to pay the procedure's expenses according to the court's estimated spending, for the judiciary each, except to be charged with paying 200 euros, as well as 50 euros for the funding for compensation of crime victims.

The disgruntled parties have a right to the extent of the sentence, in the 30-day term after declaring the sentence.

Otherwise, the Special Prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo (PSRK) on 5 February 2024 has filed charges against Rados Petrovic and Dusan Obrenovic, over violent actions in organised protests against constitutional order in Zvecan.

According to the indictment, provided by “Justice Bettim”, defendants Petrovic and Obrenovic reportedly on May 29th 2023 from 600 to the evening hours in the perimeter where the Zvecan municipality object is located and in co-ordination with many other defendants of Serbian nationalism have been active in the group, respectively, the group of persons with the intention of carrying out serious criminal acts.

The indictment reportedly says that the same through the use of violence have attempted to prevent the establishment of the Constitutional Order of the Republic of Kosovo in northern municipalities of the country, so that they have rejected orders from KFOR soldiers for the smooth distribution of the crowd and refusal to enter the municipality object.

And in the case of their arrest, the indictment says other protesters have exercised uncontrolled violence by strong means, improvised explosive devices, as well as firearms from which at least 30 members of KFOR peacekeeping forces have been injured, three of them from the firearms.

In addition to these actions, they have reportedly caused significant damage to the vehicles of KFOR, the Kosovo Police, as well as journalists' cars, which have covered the events of this day, including the complete burning of several vehicles or mass physical damage, and causing large-scale risks to life and body of many people and wealth.

With these actions, Petrovic and Obrenovic, according to P The SRK in co-ordination has carried out criminal work “The participation in the crowd that committed criminal acts and hooliganism”, from Article 404, paragraph 1 related to Article 31 of the Republic of Kosovo Penal Code (KPRK), which is punishable by imprisonment of six months to five years. /Regnition justice/
