Who is Bedri Krasniqi who was acquitted today of killing two policemen?

Bedri Krasniqi, charged with the serious murder of a Kosovo police officer and a UNMIK UNMIK Ut in 2004 today, was acquitted and released.

To date, he was suspected to be involved in the assassination of UNMIK police officer Possible Essuman and Kosovo Police, Arsim Rrutoll, in Podujevo in 2004.

On the same occasion, it is convicted of the Mehmet Shumbin. He had been sentenced to 27 years in prison for involvement in the murder of two policemen in Podujevo, but has not yet testified at the Court in the case of Bedri Krasniqi's being charged.

Otherwise, charged in this case for the murder of police officials had been Bajram Kiqmar and Faik Shaqiri, but the Supreme Court in September 2017 had issued a plea for their release, as according to this court, the two indictees had been tried years earlier about this event and that there is an act of trial for ending their investigations.

The former District Court of Pristina, on November 9, 2007, guilty of the attack that was considered a terrorist, declared only Shkumbi Mehmeti, whom he had sentenced to 30 years in prison, while he had acquitted Nazim Kadriun, Arben Ahmetin, Arsim Rashi, lives Sylejmani, Osman Kelmen, Florim Ejupi, Xhavit Kosumi, Faik Shaqiri, Nerrmen Kelmen, Irfan Ademi, Zeyerbar and Bajram Kiqar.

EULEX's prosecutor, on July 21st 2017, had filed charges against indictees Bedri Krasniqi, Alban Dezdari, Bajram Kiqmar, Faik Shaqiri, due to the commission of criminal acts “grave murder” and “Vrasje at the attempted”.

According to the indictment, the four accused on March 23rd 2004, in Podujevo, in co-ordination with Agron Sylejmani, Florim Ejupi and Shumbin Mehmeti, had attacked a UNMIK patrol patrol who were patrolling near the village of Shakovica.

The indictment reportedly claims that the accused had fired at least 108 times towards the vehicle and its four passengers, deprived the lives of UNMIK police official Possible Essuman and Kosovo Police Officer A. root, which had been carrying out their duties to protect the legal order.

Shooting injuries had suffered Kosovo Police official Basri Mulliqi and Kosovo translator UNMIK, Ram Zenelli.

According to the indictment, the accused had deliberately risked the lives of more people who were on vehicles coming behind UNMIK's car, acting for nationalist motives and deliberately committing these two murders.

Krasniqi is serving prison sentences for two murders two Kosovo police members; Sebahate Tolaj and Isuf Haklaj in 2003. For this murder, Krasniqi was sentenced to 27 years in prison.

Bedri Krasniqi is also suspected to have been involved in at least two more armed attacks in Decani.

He had also been in charge of the group that kidnapped the factory owner “Glareva”, Azem Morina. This event took place in 2010, and for the kidnapping, Krasniqi was sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Krasniqi was arrested by Kosovo Police in December 2012. He had been captured in his home in the village of Turjaca of Peja Town.
