The Serbian president met with Lajcak the day before, on August 30th.
We could have been down ten hours. I'm afraid it would be difficult to find a solution when talking to people who don't want a solution, when talking to people from Pristina who are looking for reasons for conflict and attacks on the Serb population in northern Kosovo”, he said.
Vuciq stressed that these things “do not automatically say”, because he said that Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's desire is to make “appear” Serbs from there.
“ ...not to mention how many thousands of miles we are away from the formation of Serb majority municipalities. Pristina does not think that will happen”, Vuciq said.
This meeting took place after Lajcak announced on August 28th that there was a key “meeting with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurtin, in the margins of the Black Strategic Forum, under preparations for the next summit, which is scheduled to be held in September.
On 3 June, the EU announced that it expects Kosovo and Serbia to act responsibly and immediately engage in dialogue to find a sustainable solution to the situation in northern Kosovo, a solution guaranteeing security and shared democracy for all citizens and paving the way for implementation of the Agreement on the road to normalisation of relations, reached 27 February.
The EU later declared that this solution includes starting work on forming the Serbian majority municipalities without delay or further preconditions, as well as that Kosovo authorities should announce extraordinary elections in the four municipalities in the country's north as soon as possible.
Both had also been in Brussels on 22 June, amid a crisis in northern Kosovo, but then had not held a joint meeting.
The recent escalation in northern Kosovo began on May 26th, when the new mayors of Serb majority, ethnic Albanians elected in Serb boycotted elections entered municipal buildings in Zvecan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok, with the help of the Kosovo Police.
Since then, the European Union and the United States have called for announcing new elections in four municipalities in northern Kosovo.
