German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said that Wagner's failed rebellion last weekend has weakened Vladimir Putin's authority, as the Russian president tried to repair his position by meeting military staff in the Kremlin and hailing crowds in a rare public show.
“I believe it has weakened as this shows autocratic power structures have shortcomings,”ha Scholz during an interview.
Scholz said in Wednesday's interview that he did not want to join speculation about how long Putin could stay on duty, saying the goal of the West in supporting Ukraine was to help him protect himself, not bring about regime change.
