The Russian president told about 2,500 members of the country's security forces, the National Guard and military units, the people and the armed forces that they had stayed together in opposition to the rebel mercenaries in Saturday's interrupted uprising.
At the meeting held at a square in the Kremlin complex, Putin was joined by Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, whose dismissal had been requested by Yevgeny Pigozin during the attack.
He described the rebellion as an extremely dangerous “cysts” and thanked those who helped end it.
He asked for a minute of silence to honour Russian military pilots who were killed during the attack, writes Skynews.
A number of our fighters died in this process. They have fulfilled their command and military duty with honour”, he said.
Our “Resolution and our courage, as well as the consolidation of the whole of Russian society, has been great and has played a determining role in overcoming these obstacles and rebellion. You can see that the army, society and people were one. This has allowed us to overcome the extremely dangerous situation in which the country was”, Putin added.
