As Lajcak said after the meeting, they introduced Prime Minister Kurti's proposal to the international community with three main points, but said they did not agree on the elections.
We introduced the proposal within the international community that contains three points. The first de-pass, the second new quick elections and the third turning to dialogue. We had a long, frank, and difficult discussion with the prime minister about these” points.
“If we had reached a deal [for elections], I would have said”, he added.
As for the mayors of northern municipalities, Lajcak said they are legal, but do not have legitimacy and representation.
And this is the problem we have in the north. It is therefore in the interest of Kosovo, everyone, to have heads who have legalities but also legitimacy and representation”.
Meanwhile, US emissary Gabriel Escobar stressed that the international community is more united than ever.
“I've never seen so much unity in the trans-Atlantic community. The United States, the European Union, NATO, and almost every friend of Kosovo, has made the same request. That's how we believe we're going to hear from”.
When asked if Kurti accepted their proposal, Escobar said that “we are at the beginning of our” mission.
