Eight percent of Serbia's citizens believe that the ideal solution to the Kosovo issue is recognition of independence, while recognition of the state of Kosovo as possible sees 20 percent of them.
These numbers have emerged from a survey conducted by Serbian organisation “Crna” (The Centre for Research, Transparency and Responsibility) in Belgrade for the month of February this year.
In the question of how they view “the most ideal and possible solution to the Kosovo problem”, out of 1011 residents, more than 80 people have claimed that the solution lies in independent Kosovo.
“As an ideal solution for Kosovo, the largest number of citizens (34 percent) see the return in the old manner, so that Kosovo remains part of Serbia, while 20 believe it is a kind of agreement in this direction, eight percent are in favour of Kosovo recognition, seven in favour of division of territories, and five support the Franco-German” proposal, says the survey, Klankosova.v.
On the other hand, as the most likely solution, the largest number of respondents (35 per cent) think of a kind of agreement: 22 per cent for the recognition of Kosovo, 9 per cent the Franco-German proposal and 4 per cent for division of territory”, the responses of citizens of this survey are said.
Meanwhile, if a referendum on Serbia's membership in the European Union was held next week, 44 per cent of Serbia's citizens would vote “for”, while 42 per cent oppose EU membership, according to this survey of “Cta” in February.
More than half of respondents believe Serbia's most important political and security partners are Russia and China, while the EU is the most economically important.
Almost 50 per cent of Serbia's citizens believe the best option for their country now is a strong leader who makes decisions without Parliament and Government.
The organisation “Crta” has conducted a phone poll on citizens' political positions, between February 25th and March 3rd, and polls have been conducted in a random champion of 1011 respondents.
