High poverty in Mitrovica, over 2 thousand and 130 households with social assistance

According to official information, there are a total of two thousand and 131 families in the Mitrovica municipality to benefit from the social aid scheme.

Director of the Directorate for European Integration and Social Management in Mitrovica, Drita Ibrahimi, has announced to Kosovo that the socioeconomic situation in this municipality is very serious as a result of the unemployment and lack of industry development.

The socioeconomic situation in our municipality is pretty heavy... The number of beneficial social aid families in the South Mitrovica municipality is 2 thousand and 131. This number varies from month to month because it is assessed according to the set criteria... As a factor of this high number is that Mitrovica has been and is an industrial city, the largest number of workers has been employed in giant factories {Trepca]... As another cause of the large number of social aid beneficiaries is unemployment, then it's the political factor anyway... We as municipalities are doing our best to ease this unemployment. We're always in touch with private businesses, then NGOs through different programs do population training from the profiles that the job market requires and we continue to work in this direction and I believe that by the will of all together we will manage to reduce the number of households that are under social assistance”, Ibrahim said.

Sociologist Ramadan Beshiri considers Mitrovica coming from a very powerful economy before the war, and the huge change that has occurred from post-war to this city has affected the social level of the population.

He added that even the political problem in this city has negatively affected foreign investors, respectively, in worsening the social situation of citizens.

Pointing to investments in education as crude success, Beshiri has ordered that new generations should come with education and a sense of nationality.

“Mitrovica comes from a very powerful economy before the war, and this major change from post-war in Mitrovica has affected the population size and their social level... Normally the fragility between two peoples or interethnic conflict, which has remained hostage to northern and southern Mitrovica, where a bridge divided two hostile peoples, has played a very negative role in attracting investors. It means investors have been reluctant to invest here, so the city remains in a very miserable social state... I think that a country's strategic issues are education. Any country devoted to investment in education will have successes. New generation must come with education and country love, that is. to stand up to the barriers of globalism and stay in their place... Also, what is very important is the job market in Kosovo has no room only for economists, lawyers, sociologists, our country needs professional schools very much. Today it's a modern patriotism to be a master of knauff, bravar, builder”, Beshiri said.

Meanwhile, Nysret Magera, renowned economist Mitrovicas, describes the socioeconomic situation of the Mitrovicas, with the possibility of deterioration, as a result of political and economic factors.

According to him, unemployment in Mitrovica comes from a lack of economic development, respectively, when it is known that this city in the past was prominent with its industry.

It has also cited lack of investments, activism of existing capacities, as factors that have contributed to the serious situation for mitrovicas.

Magera, resolving this serious situation, sees it proposing that all of the country's leading structures be guided to industrial development by using excess money.

He said that around 4-5 billion euros are the savings of Kosovo citizens through banks, and that (banks) should already be creditors of credit and development of the Kosovo economy, so that the means can be returned and multiplied in the industrial development of Kosovo's economy.

“The real socioeconomic state of the citizens of Mitrovica is bad and has a tendency to further deterioration. This is the result of political, economic, government factors of the Republic of Kosovo, which have not had the courage, knowledge, but also concern, for Mitrovica to return where she deserves... In Mitrovica except for political division... all branches of economic and financial development have been cut off, so disaster is increasing every day... Unemployment is at the highest possible level. Unfortunately, that's what's helping to escape the body, but also the physical power and the different masters in the outside world... Lack of investments, reactivating existing capacities, with little repair could have been very helpful... All political and leadership structures return to industrial development and exploit money that is surplus. I'm telling you, around 4-5 billion euros have savings for Kosovo citizens in banks. Banks should now be lenders and development of the Kosovo economy. We need to mobilise all means available to citizens... they will be returned and multiplied in the industrial development of the Kosovo economy”, Magera for Kosovas stressed.

Otherwise, statistics show that the most affected regions, or with the highest number of cases benefiting from social schemes, are the Mitrovica region, followed by the Pristina region and the Ferizaj region.
