2.8 billion euros were spent in Albania during 2022, as never before

The Bank of Albania has published a cycle of statistics concerning last quarter of last year, thus closing last year. One of these is that of tourist spending in our country. This data thus confirms those of the Statistics Institute for a record number of tourist entrances [...]
In 2021 the figure was estimated at 1.9 billion euros, which translates into an annual increase of 48.5%. In monetary terms, figures analyzed by “Scan Intel” shows that tourists in Albania spent 927m euros last year more than 2019. This is the largest increase ever recorded, even higher than that of 2021, with 924m euros, despite nominal growth of more than 90%, as a result of the pandemic year in 2020.
The record also records last quarter of last year, where in just three months a total of 647m euros were spent on tourists in Albania, as never before in this period of time, confirming the trend signaled by the Institute of Statistics figures regarding the inflows of tourists, for a sector that is already extending beyond the warmer months. The 647m-euro figure of tourist spending in the last quarter of last year is 45% higher than the previous historical record, recorded in the last quarter of 2019.
But, meanwhile, we have the other side of the medal, the money Albanians spent abroad during 2022. The figure is estimated at 1.77 billion euros, and we also have a new historical record. The increase is sensitive during 2022, but on the other hand, the difference between what tourists have spent in Albania and what Albanians have spent abroad is fixed close to about 1 billion euros, which is also the highest rate ever recorded.
