The Western military alliance has strongly urged Beijing to avoid what would be a violation of international law. Secretary - General NATO Jens Stoltenberg warned there have been some “signs that China can plan to support Russia in the fight against Ukraine, Sky News reports.
Last weekend, the United States said they had information suggesting China could start offering weapons to Russia. Asked whether NATO has any indication that China might be willing to offer weapons or other support to Russia in fighting Ukraine, Stoltenberg stressed:
“We have seen some signs that they can plan for this, and of course NATO allies, the United States, have been warning against it because it is something that should not happen. China must not support Russia's illegal war. ”
Stoltenberg said any Chinese assistance would be an open violation of international law. China has refused to condemn the invasion of Ukraine, but has avoided overcoming any red lines that would lead to sanctions. Western officials say it is also closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine, as it sees a possible invasion of Taiwan. /abcnews. al
