The UN said that figure is just “The iceberg's” since it is believed that thousands of others have died.
That figure is higher compared to the figures presented earlier by the UN regarding the number of victims confirmed among civilians since the launch of Ukraine's Russian occupation on February 24th, 2022. About 90 percent of the victims, according to the UN, were killed by explosive weapons.
Our data is just the tip of the iceberg. The sufferings of civilians are huge”, said High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk.
Matlinda Bigner, head of the UN Human Rights Mission in Ukraine, said he believes thousands of killings of civilians have not yet been confirmed, most of whom in the southern Ukrainian town of Marioupolis, currently under Russian control.
The figures presented by the UN included 2,000 civilians killed in Marioupol, who was home to some 450,000 million people before the war. This city was surrounded for three months and suffered great destruction.
We have unconfirmed information that suggests that the numbers are thousands higher than we have documented and a large part of them are in Mariulpol”, Bogner said.
Russia denies it deliberately targets civilians in the invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow calls “special military operation”. /Rel
