The Ukrainian Army aims to mobilise another 500,000 soldiers, Ukrainian President Voldymyr Zelensky has said, as the war with Russia turns nearly two years.
At a media conference in Kiev, he has said his commanders are looking for “45 000 5050,000 individuals”, acknowledging that the issue is <x2-> remaining” and costly.
He has said he needs more details before supporting this decision, signaling that some 500,000 soldiers are on the front line.
His comments have come as the United States and the European Union's assistance to his country is threatened.
Republicans at the U.S. Congress have initially blocked a bailout package worth $60 billion for Ukraine.
This week, representatives of the White House and the US State Department have said they plan to send more aid packages to Ukraine but have little capacity to move something forward, in the absence of Congress readiness.
The US blockade is followed by a blockade Hungary has imposed on the EU to send aid worth 50 billion euros to Ukraine.
However, EU leaders have said Ukraine will not remain without support.
Ukraine is facing a lack of ammunition as it continues to fight the Russian army after Moscow's war in Ukraine began in February 2022.
Kyiv's counteroffensiveness has not achieved the required results over the summer.
Russian President Vladimir Putin insists Moscow will continue the invasion and has pledged that all goals will be achieved.
The Kremlin leader has said that 617,000 Russian soldiers are currently taking over what Moscow calls the special military operation “”.
However, he has acknowledged that his military forces have problems with air systems for protection and communication, and that the production of drones must be increased.
Putin calls the war <x0 special military operation” to demilitarise Ukraine.
The West has responded to Russia, striking the economy of this state with severe sanctions.
