The Assembly has now stripped MP Sali Berisha of immunity, for which the SPAK has demanded a stronger measure -- that of jail arrest or house arrest.
With 75 votes in favour of the Parliament, it has approved in an unusual situation, while the opposition protests in the hall but outside the Assembly. Officially, the plenary session lasted only 6 minutes, while the majority unanimously voted out the SPAK's request, requiring the removal of immunity for Berisha, who is charged with the privatisation issue of the former Partizan complex.
The former prime minister refused to take the word during the launch of the plenary session, where he was asked to speak on the SPAK's request. Berisha asked the Speaker of the Parliament to remove the Republican Guard from his speech so that he could take his word.
With parliament's decision now clears the way for the court to harden the security measure against the former prime minister.
