Albania's former prime minister, Sali Berisha, has spoken from the premises outside the parliament's media hall after 75 votes in favour, the Socialists lifted his immunity this Thursday, paving the way for his arrest by the Special Prosecutor.
Voting in the Assembly, Berisha described as unconstitutional and promised a historic resistance in the face of what he considers a plan of leftist majority to shut down the Democratic Party and opposition in the country.
“Today the narcotics in an unconstitutional, anti-democratic act voted contrary to any constitutional procedure, contrary to any legal procedure for the removal of my immunity and arrest. Parliament today continued the work it tried on September 9th two years ago. If it fails on September 9th, I guarantee that today will be more failed than ever, that this decision will not be able to achieve the destruction of the opposition, but that this decision will mobilise the opposition to the highest degree and under the motto 'O' today or ever will give the most deserved response to this government. Today parliament ended up in the mousehole Parliament. Edi Rama entered parliament today, not by official hands, but by tunnels linking Parliament with Skender Djiush's office. The battle, launched strongly as never before, and I guarantee that this opposition will remain invincible in preserving its constitutional ideals”, Berisha said.
