Serbian authorities have indicated that by January, cars at the RKS license plates will be allowed within Serbia's territory.
That decision was published by office chief for Kosovo in Serbia's government Petar Petkov.
The country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, has reacted to this, calling Vuciqi's maneuver to reduce pressure from the democratic west.
Even the Dutch diplomat, Robert Bosch, sees this decision as political tact on the part of the Serbian Progressive Party.
According to him, the ruling party's goal is to show they are constructive in front of the international community.
With these decisions being made, the aim of the Serbian Progressive Party is to show how constructive those before the internationals are. The ruling party is aiming to testify that they are ready for talks with internationals on the issue of dialogue with Kosovo. But I consider their position to be wavering because of the frustrations of citizens who are increasingly protesting against this regime. You can see how many citizens have taken to the streets of Belgrade and they seem to have no intention of stopping until something changes. I think that from now on, even the position of internationals will be somewhat different for Serbia. Now let's wait and see if this agreement will be respected on January 1st”, the diplomat Bosch said.
Unlike the situation, however, political analyst from North Mitrovica Ognjen Gogich values the situation.
He says this decision was not made for political calculations, but to facilitate travel to Serbian citizens.
I think this Serbian authority decision was taken because the majority of Serbian citizens in Kosovo have reregistered car plates in RKS. If Serbia did not change approach then Serbs from Kosovo would be the damaged side, because they mostly travel to Serbia. Therefore, I think this decision has nothing to do with elections in Serbia. Of course, not only Kosovo Serbs but other communities will benefit from this decision. Remember that Serbia is now in a difficult position before internationals because of what happened in Banjska, so now Serbia's goal is to show more constructive. This decision by Serbia was supported by the European Union”, political analyst Ognjen Gogic said.
We remember that the Kosovo government has sometimes extended the deadline for car registration to give more time to citizens in northern Kosovo, who since post-war have used license plates issued by Serbian authorities.
