Colorado's Supreme Court ruled on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump's name could not be on the ballot sheet in the preliminary elections in that state on March 5th due to his role in the January 6th riots at Congress building by his supporters.
The historic decision will likely go to the Supreme Court of the United States for consideration.
The Colorado Supreme Court's decision, 4 to 3, calls Mr. Trump the first presidential candidate in the history of the United States to be considered inappropriate for the White House, according to a provision of the American Constitution used rarely when it prohibits officials involved in the <x0-trazy or rebellion” from holding public office.
The court concluded that the American Constitution prohibits the inclusion of the Republican candidate's name on the ballot sheet in Colorado because of its role in promoting violence against the American government.
The Colorado court said the verdict would be suspended until January 4th 2024 to enable the appeal of the verdict. Mr. Trump's campaign called the court's decision “wrong” and <x2 undemocratic>” and said it would appeal.
