You are viewing Serbia as a destabilising factor in the Western Balkan region.
German MP from the CSU ranks, Knut Abraham, says Serbia is not respecting the agreement to normalise reports with Kosovo.
Abraham, consider that dialogue may even fail completely if it continues with the same approach.
According to him, the time has come to have serious penalties for the party that is not ready for dialogue.
“Security in the Western Balkan region should be a priority of priorities, especially in this period of time. The addition of NATO troops to the region is always an option because it brings more security. The main problem lies with Serbia, which is not showing willingness to implement the agreements it has taken over. As long as Serbia acts this way there can be no security. If no agreement is respected then it means that dialogue has really failed. I believe it's time that if one party doesn't respect the agreements then there should be penalties”, he says.
The conservative MP is demanding that the results of international investigation into the Bajska event be published as soon as possible.
Dangerous “Skenaries like the one in Banjska can be repeated until politicians in Serbia do not accept Kosovo's existence. If this spirit continues in Serbia, radicalism will not depart because they will justify violence. I need the results of the investigation in Banjska. We need to understand in detail how that event happened in northern Kosovo, the situation was really very serious”, Abraham said.
In particular, the German politician considers that punitive measures against Kosovo are unreasonable, and thus has called on the European bloc to remove them.
Moreover, he has called for greater attention to Belgrade, due to statements by Serbian leaders who say they will not respect the Brussels agreement.
The time has come for the European Union to remove punitive measures against Kosovo, because they are no longer reasonable. Attention should be to those who openly say we will not respect the agreement to normalise reports with Kosovo. The European bloc should be more open with Kosovo, and pave the way for a faster integration process”, the German MP said.
On June 28th of this year, the European Union imposed punitive measures against Kosovo due to tensions in northern Kosovo.
