After three American soldiers were wounded, the US carried out attacks in Iraq

President Joe Biden has ordered the US Army to carry out air revenge attacks against groups of militia backed by Iran after three American soldiers were injured in a fearful attack north of Iraq.

National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said one of the soldiers has suffered critical injuries during the attack Monday, December 25th. Milicia Kataib Hezbollah, backed by Iran, and groups associated with it that are part of Tehran-backed umbrella militants, claimed responsibility for the fearful attack.

Beden, who is spending Christmas at Camp David in Maryland, was announced for the attack by White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. Shortly after Monday's attack, the US president ordered the Pentagon and other national security advisers to prepare options for responding to the attack on an air base used by American troops in Erbil.

After senior defence officials and national security advisers consulted the options, several hours later, Biden held a conversation with his national security team. Beden decided that the US Army would attack three locations used by Kataib Hezbollah and related groups, an official who is aware of the issue said, but who spoke on condition of anonymity, the AP reports.

US air strikes were carried out at 4:45 a.m. on Tuesday in Iraq, later than 13 hours after the attack on American personnel. According to the U.S. Central Command, revenge attacks at three “locations destroyed targeted buildings and likely killed a number of Kataib Hezbollah militants”.

The president placed a priority on protecting American personnel”, spokeswoman Watson said. “The U.S. will act in time and the way it chooses if such attacks continue”.

The latest attack comes after months of escalation of threats and actions against American troops in the region, since Hamas a Palestinian group declared a terrorist organisation by the US ʹ carried out attacks in Israel on 7 October, sparking the devastating war in Gaza.

Since October 7th, Iranian-backed militia officers have conducted dozens of attacks on American bases in Iraq and Syria.

Last month, an American fighter plane hit a Kataib Hezbollah command centre after US forces had carried out a ballistic missile attack at Al-Assad base west of Iraq. The billions backed by Iran had carried out an attack with fear at the same base in October.

The US has also blamed Iran, which finances and trains Hamas, for the attacks by Yemeni rebels against commercial and military ships on the Red Sea.
