The son of Chechen leader Ramzan Cadyrov, who was photographed this year beating a prisoner in custody, has been appointed as observers in a new battalion that is part of Russian defence ministry forces, a senior Chechen official said late Tuesday.
Adam Cadyrov, who turned 16, last week and was recently appointed as his father's bodyguard chief, appeared in a video on social networks published by Ramzan Cadyrov in September, punching and kicking a prisoner accused of burning the Koran.
The video prompted a severe reaction. Ramzan Cadyrov, a staunch ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, said at the time that he was proud of his son and respected Adam for achieving <x0ideals of honour, dignity and protection of his faith to adults”.
Adam Delimkhanov, who heads the Russian National Guard Chechen branch and is also a member of the Russian Parliament, said on Tuesday that young Cadyrov was nominated a curator, or battalion observer.
This appointment was a natural result of Adam's important services in preserving the religious, family and cultural values of our people”, said Delimkhanov, who is considered the second-highest Czech official after Kadyrov. /Telegraphy/
