Fajon: Slovenia to help Kosovo, have common history

Slovenia's Foreign Affairs Minister Tanja Fajon said Slovenia supports Kosovo for membership in the European Union and the Council of Europe. Slovenian top diplomat reaffirmed once again that Slovenia and Kosovo have strong ties between themselves. “Slovenia is a small country, and Kosovo as well, we have common history with Kosovo, [...]
“Slovenia is a small country and Kosovo as well, we have common history with Kosovo, but also with the region, and we can help both in the area of security and in normalising relations with Serbia, as well as in justice reforms”, Fajon said at RTK.
Slovenian top diplomat said the European Union always has big challenges, as it is in Ukraine.
But in recent months we have been moving ahead for visa-free travel, which is very important for young people from Kosovo”, the Slovenian top diplomat said.
She said that for visa liberalisation she has been committed from the very beginning, but that is expected to happen as far as January 1st, 2024, adding that I would be happy that this would happen even earlier.
As for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue issue, Minister Fajon said Slovenia supports this process. According to her, it is important that both sides engage in dialogue for normalisation of relations, now when we have the European, or Franco-German initiative, as previously stated.
In April we will also have elections in the northern part, which should be fair and free... It is up to Kosovo and Serbian politicians to reach compromise and find solutions”, she said.
Fajon also spoke of Kosovo's ambitions for membership in the European Union and the Council of Europe.
The Slovenian top diplomat said that after the war in Ukraine all are concerned about security risks in the Balkans, and that according to her, there should be a strong Western Balkans and also a strong Kosovo.
