Over 4 thousand, 400 people gave up Kosovo's citizenship in 2022

As they have announced about the news.net from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, within 11 months of 2022, Kosovo's citizenship has largely freed 4 thousand and 423 people.

“In 2021, a total of 4,938 people have been released from the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo. During the period 01.01.2022-30.11,2022, a total of 4,423 persons have been released from the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo.”, the Interior Affairs Ministry announced.

When it is in question the citizenship of Kosovo or the states of the European Union, Kosovars seem to be fond of the EU.

“Arsyet why people give up the citizenship of the Republic of Kosovo, is because many European Union states do not allow duality, including some states that are not part of the European Union”, the MPB reports.

After a large number of our citizens have been living for years in these states and a large number have even been born in these countries, and as a result, they have acquired the right to grant citizenship and are obliged to be released from previous citizenship in case they want to gain that country's citizenship.”, the ministry continues.

From the Department for Citizenship, asylum and migration to MPB have indicated that since Kosovo's declaration of independence, there has been a similar trend of persons who have given up citizenship.

While as far as age is concerned, according to them the new generations are what mainly seek to give up Kosovo's citizenship.

However, everyone has the right to give up the citizenship of a country and cannot be banned from someone who wants to give up citizenship.
