When scheduled for Kosovo to storm the Council of Europe, German FAZ reveals details

German journalist Michael Martens in a writing in the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, entitled “Russia abroad, Kosovo inside? Martens in his writing further stresses that the Kosovo government is planning to apply for membership in the KiE [...]

Martens in his writing further emphasises that the Kosovo government is planning to apply for membership in the KiE following elections in France, while this could then lead to Kosovo's accession in 2023.

German journalist in an analysis for The FAZ emphasises that a successful Belgrade campaign against Kosovo's involvement in the Council of Europe is less promising, unlike the United Nations, where Russia, with veto power at the Security Council.

The Council of Europe may soon have a new member. According to FAZ information from Pristina, the Kosovo government is planning to apply for membership after elections in France, possibly in May. This could lead to Kosovo's accession in 2023. The prospects are valued as good in Kosovo's capital, because Russia's exclusion means Serbia's most important ally has emerged from the Council of Europe”, writes Frankfurter Allgemen Zeitung.

Therefore, a successful Belgrade campaign against the involvement of Kosovo's Council of Europe is less promising, unlike the United Nations, where Russia, with veto power at the Security Council, is blocking Kosovo's accession, or other circumstances in the EU, broadcast Telegraphy.

After Russia's expulsion, the Council of Europe has 46 members. Of these, 34 recognise Kosovo's independence, which is more than what is required -- two-thirds -- 31.

Kosovo now has a great opportunity to apply for membership immediately. Russia and its allies are no longer able to block Kosovo”, former diplomat Petrit Selimi, Kosovo's former acting foreign minister, has said.

He stresses that the application concerns not only the mathematical potential but also the political necessity of such a step: The main argument should be that Kosovo citizens, including minorities, enjoy access to the European Court of Human Rights. Kosovo's isolated hold is not in the interest of security and stability in the Balkans.

Otherwise, Martens had warned yesterday that Kosovo will soon initiate the full-fledged membership process at the Council of Europe.

He in a Twitter post, referring to his sources, said that mathematically and politically, chances of success are considered good.

“Russia outside, Kosovo inside? Some reliable sources confirm that Kosovo will soon initiate the full-fledged membership process in the Council of Europe. Mathematical and politically, chances of success are considered good...”, Martens wrote.

Two weeks ago, the country's president, Vjosa Osmani, has expressed optimism about the country's membership in the Council of Europe, but according to it from application to membership, a period of time is needed.

“We already have agreement as institutions, and I as the head of foreign policy have demanded this year that membership application be made to the Council of Europe. We are in the final phase of the application preparations, but remember that for membership in the Council of Europe, various states, it has taken a different time for accession. Someone took another five years for membership. We're working with our partners this time to be as short as”, it was expressed, it conveys Telegrafi.

“Sic knows more than 2/3 of the Council of Europe member states have recognised Kosovo's independence, and we hope that these will vote in our favour”, the president was expressed.

Otherwise, on March 16th the Russian Federation was excluded from the Council of Europe.

The council is Europe's oldest political body and aims to support human rights, democracy and rule of law across the continent.

A statement by the Council's Committee of Ministers said that after an extraordinary “meeting”, Russia's membership was suspended.

The procedure to end Russia's membership began first on February 25th a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin's forces invaded Ukraine.
