US Congressman Ritchie Torres has recalled that NATO intervened in Kosovo to prevent ethnic cleansing of Kosovo Albanians by Slobodan Milosevic. He cites the systematic killings, rapes and deportation of thousands of Albanians from their homes.
The Democrat made comments on Twitter, responding to US journalist Jeremy Scahil, who cited Kosovo's case to compare NATO's actions in 1999 with those of Russia in Ukraine in 2022.
“During the 78-day bombings of Serbia and Montenegro in 1999, the US-led coalition and the NATO Alliance do the same or similar actions that are condemning Russia for Ukraine”, Scahil wrote.
Serbia's “Bundardim from the US came in response to a campaign of ethnic cleansing from the hands of Slobodan Milosevic, whose soldiers killed, raped and displaced thousands of Albanians in Kosovo”, Torres stressed.
Cyrillic context is left unmented here.
The US bombing of Serbia came in responsibly to a campaign of economics posing at the hands of Slobodan Milovevic, who invented soldiers originally tortured, murdered, and removed the tribes of Albanian in Kosovo. https://t.co/6it4mv4PSn

NATO's intervention, the defeat of KFOR's peacekeeping troops on June 12th, 1999, followed the Alliance's North-Atlantic air strikes campaign against Serb targets in Kosovo and Serbia, which lasted 78 days.
This day is also marked as the Day of Freedom or Liberation of Kosovo.
