The former British soldier had acted on missions in many countries, including Kosovo, but fatally the experience in Afghanistan, where after an assassination he lost both legs and his life changed forever. 42-year-old aims to be successful in the Winter Paralympade [...]

After the Winter Olympics was archived, it is time to concentrate on Paralympide, which will be held in Beijing from 4 March to 13 March.

Among the many touching stories where inspiration can be found is that of Steve Arnold.

The 42-year-old in Chinese snow will protect the colors of Great Britain, competing in skimer and biathlon events.

The British skier has a very special story: the former soldier lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan in 2011.

From that time on, his life has changed forever, and sports has helped him to move on.

Steve Arnold had promoted the military family tradition, joining the British forces of “Royal Engineering”.

He has completed many career missions, including in Kosovo.

Among other things, he has also served in Northern Ireland and Iraq.

But the experience in Afghanistan was fatal for him.

In April 2011, he risked his death, writes the British medium “The Guardian”.

While he was in a vehicle search operation, he became the victim of an attack.

The consequences have been severe for Steve, who lost both his legs.

In that case, salvation was complicated because of a storm of sand, with Arnold experiencing terrible moments.

Immediately, the British soldier realized that his life had changed, that he would close his military experience there, and that he would have difficulties associated with his health.

After his rehabilitation, he began to smile back.

An opportunity came from <x0Help for Heroes” to participate in an ad.

To have your military career ended at 31 years of age, when you've already been chosen to rise, it's hard. I didn't know what I would do next and how I would help my family”, Steve Arnold said.

And the good news about him didn't stop.

Sports has been a great help to Arnold, who was initially involved with <x0handbike”, and then started skiing.

By 2017 she has begun her new life in the snow, with pleasure related to the prospect of competing in the World Champions.

“Army was Plan A, cycling was Plan B and I'm on Plan C. I don't want this locked down the same way”, he added.

Unfortunately, PyongChang's Winter Paralympide had arrived very soon for him, and with great frustration, he could not attend.

With his head down, Steve worked hard and now in the Beijing Paralympade is willing to fight for a medal, for what's a revenge for him.

It's an extraordinary feeling. I was left alone in 2018 - I entered this sport too late and had to do much to achieve, so I did not have so much will and determination at that time. It was very depressing, difficult in the first two months, but I probably wasn't ready. I needed these years of training”, says British skier.

The identity card does not give the racer much luxury.

He is 42 years old and is aware that this could be his first and last paralympide.

So he wants to be successful and win medals in this competition.

I'm not getting any younger, I'm 42 and I started this sport at the age of 37. Most people would think more retirement at this age than participation in the Winter Paralympade. I've been thinking about that. I think this is gonna be my only chance. We'll see what happens next, but I can't wait to attend. It'll be the biggest event I've ever attended and it'll probably be the only one for me. So I want to achieve the best results on the ground. I look forward to success, after four years of blood, sweat, and tears”, the British skier concluded.

Every four years, the Winter Paralympic Games gather disabled athletes.
