Shkelzen Maliqi for Periscope: Kurti government be more cautious about the situation in the north

The renowned analyst, Shkelzen Maliqi, commenting on recent developments in northern Kosovo, says he believes security in the country, total security is guaranteed, but, however, says the Government should be careful. “Total security is guaranteed. These recent incidents can last [...]

He also talks about Serb warnings to launch the country's institutions in other parts of Kosovo.

“A will have success or may not know, I believe no, but should not provoke the situation, or prove itself in irreversible situations. The initiative is such, now they are warning from Belgrade that in other parts, institutions will also release, and that creates a 99-year situation by 2013 as if it became a formula for Serb integration. They're coming out of” now, he says. Maliqi, convey Periscope.

Even so, Maliqi says Serbia will not enter a new adventure in Kosovo.

“I don't believe it will go to extremes, there are forces in Serbia that are breaking off the Vuciki regime and making policies independent but in essence until we have this situation where we have it inside NATO, in the global picture, will not have severity even for Serbia, would be an adventure if it would create new conflict here in Kosovo”, Maliqi says of Periscope.

Nevertheless, Maliqi recommends Kurti to be more cautious as government towards the situation in the north.

“Curt government should be more cautious and co-ordinate activity with international factors, especially with the United States because they, as well as themselves, accept that they are much more informed than he himself, said Male for Periscope.

US: No conditions for holding elections in the north

The United States estimates that, currently, there are no conditions for holding elections in northern Kosovo on December 18th.

US Ambassador to Pristina Jeffrey Hovenier said the security of all Kosovo citizens “should be the highest priority”.

“Returning to violence and intimidation, including the use of an explosive device, and risking lives are never an appropriate method of protest, under no circumstance”, Hovier wrote in Titter.

Kosovo Government spokesman Progress Kryeziu, has said they are awaiting the assessment of the situation in the north by security bodies “for further steps” for elections in the north.

He has written on Facebook that Kosovo institutions have shown willingness to offer the necessary conditions for the prosperity of the elections.

“Pestimi or failure of them [elections] is attack on democracy”.

Criminal “Bands may not even participate in elections, but they cannot dictate holding democratic elections. The acts of violence and criminal acts must be unanimously condemned”, he wrote.

RECENTING: Tensions between Kosovo and Serbia began to rise since Summer, when the Kosovo government said it would no longer allow cars with Serbia's license plates in the north.

Rejecting this plan, which began to be implemented on November 1st, northern Serbs resigned from Kosovo institutions at both the local and central level.

Kosovo and Serbia, meanwhile, reached agreement on the license issue, under which Pristina suspended the plan for reregistering cars, while Belgrade pledged it would not issue new license plates for Serbs in the north. /Periscope
