Russia announced the annexation of four Ukrainian regions last Friday following referenda held under the shadow of war, and the West promised that it would never recognise them, but that there are some places in the Kremlin that see the eternal and strategic ally.
Thus, North Korea is officially the first country to have recognised the results of referenda in four Ukraine's occupied regions, writes Reuters.
We respect the will of residents who wanted reunification with Russia and support the Russian government's stance that these areas become part of the country. The referenda were held in line with the UN Charter, which sanctions the principles of the equality of peoples and their right to self-rule.
This was carried out in line with legal procedures that allowed the will of the people of the two republics and both regions, said the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs response.
