Spain's Foreign Minister Arancha Gonzalez Laya in a statement to Spanish radio Onda Cero called on Spanish citizens to act responsibly and not travel unless necessary in this period where the pandemic is intensive.
It has criticised Spanish citizens who have gone to Morocco despite recommendations not to travel to the Easter holiday period.
“They have also imposed restrictions on us as we have set for other countries. When this happens, it's useless to call the government and ask for the problem to be solved”, Laya said.
We will, regardless of everything we will take the necessary initiatives for restoring Spanish citizens who remain in Morocco. But we must not forget one thing, which is that as citizens we must bear a great responsibility. At a time when there is such intense uncertainty on the borders it is better to stay away from travel”, she said.
Because of the new option COVID-19, Morocco decided to suspend flights of many countries, including Spain, France, Algeria, Egypt, Greece, Finland, Lebanon, Norway, Poland, Kuwait, Mali, Ghana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, and Libya.
