Israeli team fans are actually known for their intolerance. And last weekend they didn't disappoint. Members of the “club La Family”, during the match against Haloel Tel Aviv, became protagonists of a clash with other supporters of their club.
On the one hand, some encouraged their team, on the other hand about a hundred members of “La Family”, forcedly tried to silence other fans in protest of involvement in the formation of player Youssouf Kaso Mara, originally from Guinea and Muslims.
Campo Mara's supporters reported that they were punched and kicked by “La Family” Among those attacked was a disabled woman later hospitalized. “On our steps there is no room for women and disabled”, they said, according to the woman's own statement to the media. The owner of Baytar of Jerusalem, Moshe Hogeg, who has been fighting racism in sports for years and tired of this situation, has released the club for sale in September, posted a Facebook message asking for forgiveness of those attacked.
He added that “La Familia resembles a terrorist organisation” and urged authorities to take action against its members. In the past, there had already been protest gestures against Muslims. In 2019 when the club signed with Nigerian Ali Mohammed, “La Familia” had published a protest post in social media:
“We have a problem with his name that can't be pronounced in our stadium or printed on our”. The situation had deteriorated in 2020, when Hogeg tried to sell 50% of Beitar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, a member of Abu Dhabi's ruling family, a sale that was later blocked by the Israeli Football Federation after an investigation uncovered unclear deals in which Al Nahyan was involved.
