Ivan Klasnic has prevailed. Justice has guided the former footballer, who had indicted Werder Bremen's German club for kidney damage to the treatments he had received during the time he played the Bundesliga team.
10 years after the court doors and Werder Bremen must spend some 4m euros in account for Croatians. Klasnic, who played football and closed it in 2013, performed three kidney transplants after having had health problems.
Klasnic's lawyers claimed that their client had suffered from numerous drugs the club had given him against pain. The 40-year-old had previously received 100 thousand euros in damages, but the case was brought to a higher degree of justice.
Matthias Teichner, the Croatian lawyer, has said: No money in the world can compensate for the considerable and permanent damage to my client's health, but this decision is to create a sense of establishing justice. At least the doctors were willing to express their sympathy for what had happened. In my opinion this was too late”.
