German police said they have destroyed a network of cocaine smugglers, arresting 17 people in Belgium, including two network leaders.
The operation, conducted by Belgian police, after a report by German investigators, led to the arrest of an Albanian, 34, and a 35-year-old Latvianis, who are <x0nder drug bosses in Europe”, German police said in a statement.
Contacted by the AFP, Belgian police and prosecutors refused to comment.
Police had raided about 20 apartments in Antuperp and Brussels on Tuesday and last Wednesday. Some hundreds of thousands of euros and 187kg of cocaine are sequore”, German police added.
Investigators had begun investigating them after they discovered 200 kilograms of cocaine hidden in banana boxes in 10 supermarkets in Bahari in 2017. Drugs had been transported from Ecuador to Hamburg port before distribution to Germany.
Fourteen were convicted. But, police had continued their investigation into an effort to find traffic network organisers.
The two arrested drug bosses are believed to be chiefs of an Albanian network across Europe and played a role as a mediator between South America drug cartels and European cocaine buyers.
They were located in Belgium. Antürp, Europe's second largest trading port, is favoured as a key point for cocaine smugglers because of transportation links with Latin America.
