Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter were going to the Mamba Sports Academy of legendary NBA player when their helicopter crashed, the American media reported.
The retired star of Los Angeles Lakers who gave himself the nickname “Black Mamba” co-founded the training facility for professional and amateur athletes at Thusand Oaks in 2018.
Bryant, 41-year-old, and his teenage daughter Gianna Bryant were on their way to a basketball game there when their helicopter crashed around 10 local time, on the hills over Calabasas, ESPN reports.
Three more people aboard the helicopter lost their lives as well.
Gianna was expected to play in the game, part of a tour of the Mamba Cup series, with Bryant acting as coach, team director Lady Mavericks, Evelyn Morales told CNN.
All the games planned to take place at the training center on Sunday are reportedly cancelled.
For the past two years, Bryant had trained Gianna's Amateur Union's basketball team in the facility, according to a U article. SA Today published last week.
Bryant held a mini-training camp in the centre last summer for a small part of NBA players, including Kawhi Leonard, Kyrie Irving and Isaiah Thomas. He held a similar summit there this month for WNBA players.
