US Ambassador to Pristina Philip Kosnett has stated he is pleased that activist Blert Morina has won the case against the Civil Recording Agency in court to change the name and marker of the gender in identifying documents.
Kostett has written on Twitter that this is an important step for the rights of the LGBTI community in Kosovo.
A few days ago, the Constitutional Court in Pristina has given Blert Morina rights and forced the Civil Record Agency to change that gender marker and name to identification documents.
The Constitutional Court Act in Pristina, the Department for Administrative Affairs, by which Blert Morina was granted the right to change the gender marker and the name in identification documents in line with his gender identity. Morina had requested from the Gjakova Civil Status Office in April 2018, which was to change the name from Blerta to «Blert» and the gender gender marker to the male gender marker «M». Following the refusal response of the Civil Status Office and the Civil Record Agency (ARC), Morina filed a lawsuit with the Foundation Court in Pristina, demanding that his gender identity be legally recognised”, was disclosed.
