Tragedy in California/ At 25 the death toll, 9 still searching

At first, some disappeared, but the size of a ship destroyed by fire off the California coast is larger than that: 25 lifeless bodies have been found so far. U.S. coast guards say that nine more people are still unknown, while five crew members have survived. [...]
My brother escaped, managed to jump off the ship, but I don't know anything else. I'm waiting to meet him to learn something from him, the brother of one of the survivors said.
The fire began at the time when the ship was anchored near Santa Cruz Island, about 150 miles [1 145 km] west of Los Angeles.
The cause of the flames that devoured the Concepto is not white; all that is known at the moment is that when the fire broke out, there were 39 people on board. There are reports that some of the passengers may have been trapped under the deck.
The survivors were sleeping in the big cabin upstairs. The survivors had managed to jump into the water before Concepto was helped to reach another ship, the Grape Essex”.
The owner says that the flames had invaded almost every part of the ship, turning it almost into a fiery mess. Authorities think there may have been an explosion on board, but this will be verified during the investigation. The ship turns out to be in full compliance with security regulations and no violations.
