According to Sky Sports Italy, the sudden decision to terminate the contract was made yesterday between the player and the club.
Italian media further suggests that the talks are continuing, but that the player will most likely leave.
Strinic joined Milan from Sampdoria in last summer, signing a two-year agreement but failed to make any appearances after heart problems emerged.
The 31-year-old player is more obliged to leave Rossons because of Theo Hernandez's arrival from Real Madrid.
Before his transfer to San Siro, the World Cup finalist with Croatia played for Naples and Sampdoria, working with Marco Giampaolo in the latter.
