In a grand event, the Kosovo Olympic Committee has marked World Sport and Environment Day today.
The purpose of the event was sensibility and empowering the female's role in sports, for which, in the Square “Zahir Pajaziti” in Pristina, numerous team and individual sports champions, senior state figures, MPs, prominent sports figures, culture, etc.
Even the presence of the president of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, made the event more impressive. Kosovo's former president, Atifete Jahjaga, as well as senior leadership of the Ministry for Culture, Youth and Sports, as Deputy Ministers Leonora Morina-Bunjak and Buraka-Deva, the director of Sports in the Pristina municipality, Fitim Rexha, senior Pristina University officials, foreign Embassy ambassadors in Kosovo, etc.
KOK President Besim Hasani spoke of the purpose of this day, with particular emphasis promoting the female in sports. The objective of World Sports and Environment Day is to have all sports activity, including different championships, developed into clean environments today, so we are gathered to mark this very day with the negligible aim of promoting the female into sports, because the sports community is 100 percent mobilised, so that the female will be involved in each field of sports, even in the Executive Board to the extent 50-50%1x>, President Hasani said, among other things.
President Hashim Thaci encouraged women to take sports and follow the path of our champions. Even on this day, I encourage all Kosovo women to follow the example of Majlinda Kelmendi, Nora Gjakova, Distria Krasniqi and many other athletes who have raised Kosovo's state flag worldwide and raised Kosovo's flag by winning gold medals. You must believe in your abilities, your creative abilities in order to realize your dreams. In the 11 years of Kosovo Independence, women have brought the greatest success to Kosovo”, President Hashim Thaci said.
Deputy Minister for Culture, Youth and Sports Leonora Morina-Bunjaku expressed the willingness and continuation of the MKRS to support women in the sports field, through various projects, as he mentioned successful athletes such as Majlinda Kelmendi, Nora Gjakova, Donjet Sadiku, Uta Ibrahimi, Mrika Nikci, etc. Our message to you is to make us proud and build bridges rather than walls”, Morina-Bunjaku stressed.
On behalf of the University of Pristina, the audience addressed the projector, Myrvete Badivuku Pantina, who urged women to take sports, while MP Blerta Deliu-Cadriu congratulated the day dedicated to our women and girls in our sport to be permanent.
Then a video was released, aimed at empowering the female's role in sports, including the most successful women in the sports field.
Before the plains of Zahir Pajaziti Square, mainly various athletes of champion teams practiced football sports, handball, volleyball, boxing, karate, tennis, table tennis, chess, Berling, badminton, etc.
Some of these sports were also practiced by President Hashim Thaci, former President Atifete Jahjaga, MP Blerta Deliu aldra, etc.
At the end of the event, as the tradition of this event, the leaders of the KOK, along with the others, addressed Pristina University Campus, where they planted the 2019 Olympic Tree, while sports clubs planted another 50 trees, thus contributing to environmental improvement, as well as to the “Mbill campaign and to a Peme”.
