People are divided into two categories: Those who want to take a nap in the afternoon and those who avoid it. But there is a scientific explanation of why some want to rest during lunchtime, and others do not.
Researchers involved in the study say that the results achieved are beneficial for the sleeping habits that different people have.
The research was based on a study of a protein called SIX3 in order to reveal the effects on mouse sleep.
In addition to studying the amount of hours of sleep, researchers also examined the brains of animals during sleep and the alarm level when they were awake.
The result is that rats needed more hours of sleep, and this was reflected in their brain activity.
The chief author of research, Professor Takoto Honda, has explained that the characteristics of this amino acid within the SIX protein are similar worldwide in animals, which means that the results are also applicable to humans.
The reason some people need more sleep may be directly linked to protein mutation.
However, researchers say that by studying mice rather than people, not everything is certain.
