China is extremely important to North Korea as the main trading partner.
Xi's visit comes a week before the G20 summit in Japan, where he will meet with US President Donald Trump.
This will be his first meeting with Kim after that Trump-Kim meeting in February ended without any agreement on de-lelarising North Korea.
