A woman who suffered catastrophic brain damage in a 1991 traffic accident woke up from a coma after 27 years.
Munira Abdulla was severely injured when the car she was traveling to crashed into a bus in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Abdulla, who was 32 at the time of the accident, had just taken her son, Omar, 4, from school before the accident.
Omar left with only one wound on his head, but his mother suffered such a serious damage that doctors suspected would ever recover.
But now, 27 years later, she has regained her conscience in a German hospital.
Her family spoke for the first time about her sad experience.
Omar, now 32, told the newspaper U n AE The National: “I never gave up, because I always had a feeling that one day she would wake up”.
Abdulla continues to receive treatment at Abu Dhabi.
She had moved to a number of different hospitals in different countries since the accident, including one in London./Periscopi/
