World health officials recommend no more than seven sugar spoons a day.
Researchers from London University College and the University of Leeds said that switching to tea without sugar can improve people's diet.
The reduction of sugar consumption from drinking in question may help reduce its overall consumption”, the study said.
The findings, which were revised by conference officials, were released at the European Congress on Obesety in Glasgow, Scotland.
The authors said greater experiments were needed to confirm the findings.
