Sexual harassment and violence are rampant in Switzerland. A new study by GFS Bern interviewed 4,400 women during March, April 2019.
12% of them admitted to having experienced sex against their will. According to statistics from Switzerland's female population, it corresponds that around 430,000 women aged 16 and older have engaged in sex against will.
8% said they accepted because of fear and 7% were forced into relations.
In 68% of cases, the perpetrators of sexual assault have been known.
Only 10% reported the incident to the police and only 8% eventually filed criminal charges. The rest explained that it was because of shame, the feeling of being bad luck, and the fear of not being trusted.
More than 50% of women believed that if history was discovered, then the situation would get worse.
