22-year-old Matthews Fernandes faced ottogon with rival Obed Pereira and in the first two rounds managed to win scores. In the third round, however, he received several blows to his head and neck, resulting in a crash into the ground, losing the match to the knockout.
The worst came after he displayed poor life signs and was immediately transported to the hospital, where he breathed a few hours later.
Doctors found that his death did not result in a stroke, but four heart attacks struck the young man. These were caused by drug use, which was confirmed by a sportsman's friend who said he had consumed drugs the night before the match.
