About 600 officers were involved in the operation, as was supported by Europol.
The arrested persons are allegedly involved in trafficking narcotics, human beings, prostitution and money laundering, writes VizionPlus, albinfo.ch.
The arrests were carried out after a complex investigation into the activities of this group operating in Belgium, France, Holland, Italy, and Great Britain.
According to Europol, people arrested are believed to have managed a dozen cannabis planning plans throughout Belgium and northern France.
And some of this group's members are allegedly involved in trafficking human beings in France.
55 people were arrested in Belgium, including the leaders of OGG, 7 in the Netherlands and 2 others in France, while the investigation was conducted by Federal Belge Police ( Federal Police) in co-operation with France's National Gendarmerie, Dutch Police (The National Police), the Italian Directorate Investigatinga Anti-Mafia (Dictor of Anti-Mafia Investigations) and the British Police Metropolitan.
Europol supported the investigation from the beginning by facilitating the exchange of information. On the day of action, six Europol experts were placed in the country in Belgium, France and the Netherlands to allow real-time information exchange, data checks collected during the course of action against Europol databases, as well as provide technical support during the break-up of drug production sites, as well as legal support, releasing 14 sequentised mobile devices.
This investigation is part of the Italian Direzione Investigva Antimafia O project NNET, an EU-funded initiative to fight organised mafia-type crime groups in Europe. The project was launched last November at the Europol headquarters and consists of 6 member states (Italia, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain) and Europol. The ONNET project targets mafia-style criminal groups in their entirety, instead of one or more of their particular criminal activities.
Further operations of this kind are expected to take place in the near future.
