The state of Spain has halted discrimination against Kosovo athletes, allowing state symbols to be allowed at the 54th European karate Championship, which begins today in the town of Guadaira.
In the photo published by the Olympic Committee, you see the Kosovo flag deployed to the flags of other states, which are participating in the European Union.
Vlerona Shala (kata), Albula Gervalla (-55kg), Fort Orana (+68kg), Silverd Berjan (kata), Orges Arifi (-60kg), Star Cenaj (-67kg), Elhami Shaban (-75kg), Alvin Karaqi (-84kg), Heroid Nishevci (+84kg), will look for medals in this championship, while Kosovo is represented with: Nishevcin, Arifi, Cenajan, Karaqi, Saban, and Blodin Pakshtica.
Despite problems that had previously caused Kosovo, the Spanish Federation of Karate had indicated that Kosovo would compete as equal to all other nationals participating in the European Union.
Kosovo, whose independence is not recognised by Spain, was not allowed to participate in the Karate World in late November, which was held in Madrid. After that, the Karate Olympic Committee had threatened Spain that it would not be able to organise other races unless it allows Kosovo to participate with state symbols.
According to the Spanish daily Sport, for this reason the Spanish government was tasked with solving this problem and together with the German president of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, reached agreement to allow Kosovo to compete with state symbols. /Gazza Express/
