Katarina Milosevic abused by former husband, says institutions are not helping

Threatened with a knife. Mistreated and followed for several years now, Katarina Miosheviqi from the northern part of Mitrovica, is seeking help to escape her former husband. I married Darko Milenjevchi in 2007, knowing he used to consume alcohol. Until we are married, and me [...]

I married Darko Milenjevchi in 2007, knowing he used to consume alcohol. Until we got married, then changed our behavior. He ran from house to house from morning till late in the evening when he was drunk, physically and psychologically abused, and I had different situations when he threatened me with a gun, a knife. All I had to do was keep my parents from embarrassing me by waiting for him to change, and he'll calm down, but it was in vain. This lasted for four years, and his exits were sometimes with him from a few days. I used this and on January 29, 2012, I've left that”, Katarina Milosevich, the victim of domestic violence.

The mother of a six-year-old child, since his divorce for three years, reported at least 6 times to the former husband at Zvecan Police Station. Finally, on charges of physical violence and threats of murder Darko Mileniqi was sentenced to 90 days in prison. But neither did prison.

In 2018, he began following me again, sending me orders, disturbing me, and insulting me. On May 30, 2018, we again had a trial at the Constitutional Court in Mitrovica, and it was decided not to come near and bother me, but on that very day it violated the decision and brought me offensive orders. I showed him again that I knew what would happen. I had to go to the store, go to work, send the baby to the nursery. No texting stopped. It's offensive-type mail”, she said further.

Milosevqi complains that the Constitutional Court in Mitrovica was extremely biased in its case. As his husband insulted him in court, the judge laughed at the insults Milenjev took on him.

Of course, I have complained at the Court of Appeals in Pristina that this court is not present in the next trial. That's what happened. What was the judge? "Faton Ademi”," said Miloshevqi.

In addition to dissatisfaction with the court, Miloshevqi says the Zvecan Centre for Social Affairs has also been careless about the danger she lives with.

Social worker Biljana Nikolic had released a report dedicated to the Prosecution in Mitrovica, saying Mileniqi is a dangerous person and should undergo treatment for alcoholism.

But her husband had refused the treatment.

She demanded that the Court extend the order that prevented the former man from approaching her, but the social worker was thinking that this is not necessary, at least until something happens.

In a phone response, Nikoliqi has told KTV she is not too concerned with Milosevich's complaints since she has done everything she can to protect the child.

It can complain, even seek replacement for someone else to lead the case. I think there was no reason to complain yes, however, to send our director the request and if he doubts my work, let the leader of the case be changed. But our centre's job was to protect the child's interest, and I think in this case I did this”, Biljana Nikolic said, the Social Work Centre, Zvecan.

Moreover, Milosevek had also presented the psychic violence her ex-husband exercises against their six-year-old child, which was ignored.

Police officials in northern Kosovo have not provided answers to the issue.

Every time he took the child on the weekend, he could see him seven hours a day, taking him to locals and stores where alcohol was consumed. Moreover, I have evidence that the child consumed alcohol, such as in this photograph where he holds the bottle of beer”, Milosevich claims.

Katarina adds that no one in Pristina has ever turned to for help because I don't know how they would behave to her, since she is a Serb and doesn't speak Albanian.

Born and raised in northern Mitrovica, the teacher of education and child care at the School of Medicine, 34-year-old states that if anyone doesn't help them, she should leave Kosovo.
