In the commission's final report on digitalisation, culture, media and sports, which was drafted after 18 months' investigation, the social network is accused of deliberate obstruction of investigations and failure in preventing Russian influence in the election.
“Democracy is at risk of attacking citizens with false information and personal advertising from unidentified and distributed sources through the main platforms of social networks”, said the commission's chief, Damian Collins.
The parliamentary commission has accused Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg of trying to reject three parliament's requests for witnessing and has called on the British government to launch an independent investigation into the external impact on Scotland's independence referendum, Britain's EU exit referendum and the overall elections of 2017, writes “Guardian”.
