Monkey Paintings The series A Again Charged With Racism

The latest initiative of Sery A to combat racism from Italian football has been met with widespread criticism, such as the Kick Itout organisation and the agent of Romelu Lukakus, since the league always chose to display three pictures of monkeys in its offices. The artist, Simone Fugazzotto, is known for the metaphoric use of monkeys as human beings in his paintings and has made it clear that his purpose was to reverse this racial concept, stressing that all humans descended from monkeys.

The league's decision to place these paintings in its office permanently has not been well received and racisted, while formerly players like Romelu Lukacu and Calidou Culibaly had become the target of calls by racist fans.

As a result, many fans have been shocked by these paintings and have considered the campaign against racist racism itself because of the use of monkeys. But, Serie A general manager, Louis de Siervo, tried to clarify what had happened.

Simone's “Pictures fully reflect values of honesty and tolerance, so they will remain in our offices. We are taking our firm stand against any form of prejudice”, said De Siervo of the paintings of three monkeys, of whom one is western, one Asian and one black.

The famous organisation against racism, Kick It Out, appreciated the goal of Serie A, but suggested using another method that may have more effect.

It's encouraging when a governing body realizes it has to do more to get rid of discrimination. Unfortunately, the use of monkeys from Serie A in their campaign against racism is completely inappropriate, harms any good purpose, and will be counterproductive. We hope the league will examine it once again and replace the campaign's” paintings, says the Kick It Out statement.

Inter striker Romelu Lukacus's agent was less merciful at the purpose of the campaign and more shocked by improper paintings.

Every time Serie A opens her mouth, things get worse. Every time Serie A comes with something against racism, things get worse. The paintings they published are insensitive, shameful not only for the league, but for all member clubs around Italy”, Michael Yorkmark said.

I can't understand. This is evidence of their ignorance. This proves that they have an idea about racism in football. The time has come for them to seek help from organizations that understand this problem”.

How can clubs have a strong attitude against racism when evil has no idea what it's doing?”
